I grew up in Olds and graduated from Olds High School in 2005. In 2008 I graduated from the University of Calgary with my Bachelor of Nursing and at the time was living in Lethbridge. I had followed my boyfriend Jeff down there while he was attending the University of Lethbridge. Flash forward a couple of years and we moved back to Olds (where he was born and also raised), got married and had two kids. Now, we live just outside of town, I’ve been working at the Didsbury Hospital in the emergency for the past 9 years and started to pursue my Master of Nursing: Nurse Practitioner degree this year. Jeff works alongside his dad on the family farm.
Why did you pursue medicine?
When I was little my Grandpa would always ask what I was going to be when I grew up? I always answered a doctor. I really don’t know why but healthcare stuck. I also can’t say that I loved nursing school, but I’ve always been fascinated with the human body and I guess a bit of a nerd. Over 11 years after starting my career as a registered nurse, I’m still loving it and always looking for learning opportunities and new ways to challenge myself.
What is most rewarding?
No matter the setting, I always love when I can bring a smile to a patients face! When you get to see that you’ve made a positive impact on someone’s day, week or overall quality of life, nothing can beat that!
Why would you refer your own friends and family to the practice?
My family and friends are actually how I found the clinic. I had so many people tell me how great it is, I actually started out as a patient around 5 years ago and then again they pushed me to reach out to Dr. V and Retha when I was looking to pursue a job in skin health and aesthetics. And well, here I am!
What is your favorite procedure results you see patients share with you?
Botox is always so fun! Especially the patients who are treated for their first time. When they return for their 2-week follow-up visits they’re always so impressed and excited that those lines are now smoothed and relaxed! Personally, I love that people look exactly like themselves only softer and without all those expressive lines or wrinkles!
I have an 11 year old miniature dachshund (a wiener dog) named Leonard. He was my first kid and I don’t really know what life would be like without him. I even have a tattoo dedicated to him!
