Surgery is a definitive method of dealing with stubborn, unsightly or cancerous skin problems.
This is the choice method to remove any suspicious skin lesion for histology sampling. After a local anesthetic injection, a wide edged sample of the lesion is taken, most times not even requiring suturing. These biopsies heal very well within 1-2 weeks with minimal scarring.
Male circumcision in the first 2 weeks of life is a family and parental choice. We offer the Plastibell® method. Dr. van der Vyver has completed over 500 circumcisions with this tested approach and had very few complications with positive results.
Milia, skin tags, sebaceous cysts and hyperplasia, keratosis, cherry hemangioma’s and warts that are superficial, benign and resistant or contra-indicated to other treatment options, can be destroyed by low-voltage cautery with a fine surgical needle. For patients on blood thinners; during an excision excessive bleeding can be controlled with cautery of blood vessels with minimal damage to the tissue and surrounding skin.
Scars, moles, cysts, ganglions and fibroma’s are the most common benign lesions requested for removal. Direct excision with sutures is the norm. As there are very few medical indications for these lesion removals, procedures are usually an out-of-pocket expense. Excisions of smaller tattoos and re-shaping of torn ear lobes have been completed with consistent outcomes. Great caution and care is taken to obtain excellent results with minimal risks for scarring, infection or complications.
A one-time steroid injection can resolve ganglions, acne cysts, tendonitis and arthritis. Alopecia Areata (Localized hair loss) can successfully be treated with micro-injections of a steroid and Vitamin-complex mixture.
This method offers the least invasive virtually scar free and permanent option for lesions such as keratosis, fibromas, warts and the so-called senile wart (seborrheic keratosis), a very annoying problem in the mature population. Usually 2 treatments are needed, however warts need up to 4 treatments to eradicate the more stubborn lesions.
Also referred to as Collagen Induction Therapy. CIT is aimed at stimulating the body’s own collagen production to address skin discoloration, sun damage, fine lines, volume loss, skin tone and texture. Micro-needling creates damage to the dermis which encourages the body to produce collagen type I, the most basic and baby type collagen to generate new skin cells to repair/heal itself, thus the skin becomes thicker, plumper and more youthful. Best results can be anticipated when needling is done in conjunction with a medical grade skin care, such as Dermaviduals®, and by adding laser skin rejuvenation to your regime you will achieve optimal results. Laser stimulates collagen type III; together these modalities bring the best results forward for scars, aging and sun damage. One treatment per month for 6 sessions are recommended to achieve the best results. Improvements are visible three to six months post treatment due to the collagen remodeling process.
During Microdermabrasion treatments our estheticians use a minimally abrasive instrument to gently sand your skin, removing the thicker, uneven outer layer. This type of treatment or procedure makes way for a new, smoother layer of skin to replace the outer older skin layer. This type of skin rejuvenation is used to treat light scarring, discoloration, sun damage and improves lymphatic drainage of the skin. Microdermabrasion works on all types of skin types and colours. It makes subtle changes, causing no skin colour change or scarring. It is not effective for deeper problems such as scars, stretch marks, wrinkles or deep acne scars. The procedure is less aggressive than dermabrasion so the dermatologist won’t need to inject any numbing medicine. After the procedure is complete, there is less down time compared to dermabrasion. Your skin will be temporarily pink, but fully recovers within 24 hours. To ensure your skin is cared for after the procedure, use recommended moisturizers and sunscreens. Avoid sun exposure for a few days immediately after the procedure.
This cryogenic fluid, at -170°C freezes cells at a very low temperature. The damaged cells are removed and replaced by healthier cells. Sun damaged and pre-cancerous, as well as warts are commonly treated with this method. An irritating tender spot after treatment takes 2-3 weeks to heal.
This highly concentrated acidic solution is carefully applied to lesions such as warts, it is less painful than liquid nitrogen but in experienced hands can lead to the elimination of warts in a similar time frame.
It refers to the examination of the skin using a skin surface microscope. Dermoscopy is mainly used to evaluate pigmented skin lesions. In trained and experienced hands it can make it easier to diagnose melanoma and separate between malignant and benign skin lesions.
